  • 1903 Free Agency Thread

Free Agency bidding begins at 9:01PM EST on Wednesday December 12th.

Looks like a lot of money is going to be spent on some very marginal players.

Taking bets on how big a salary Patsy Flaherty draws. My bet is 25M

Is a player who is inactive in 1903 but who had playing time prior to 1903 eligible to be bid on as a free agent? This question always comes up in various leagues and I didn't see an answer in our rules.

Dan, I believe that Rich said last year when the same issue came up that you could NOT bid on a player that did not play in a given season. Naturally if you already own the rights to a player that didn't play in a given season you can carry him on the roster, but I'm pretty sure Rich said you can't bid on any player that's a free agent but doesn't actually appear in the upcoming season. If that's not right I'm sure Rich will correct me.

35 man rosters going into the season, 130% playing time in 1903. Is that correct?

Also, did we decide to reduce the number of PAs/BFs from 100 to a smaller number in order to have a guy in the lineup from 1901-1903? Seems like we did, but I might be thinking of CKL during the 1981 strike season.

--As far as I recall you can not have a guy with less than 100 serving as anything but an injury replacment, although they will be active to jump in for in-sim injuries. I don't remember the roster increase from 30-35 either. Hope that is a max not a requirement, because there really don't seem to be enough players to support that roster size.

due to the limited number of available players the minimum roster requirement is 30. owners are required to have enough plate appearances and innings to cover the season though.

owners are required to have enough plate appearances and innings to cover the season though.
What figures are you using Rich? I won't have any problem with innings, but I can see some serious issues with PAs, especially at a couple of positions I need to fill. What happens if I don't get sufficient PAs at a particular position? I'm not trying to be difficult, but I can see a real issue for me at one position. I don't think it will even be possible to get enough PAs there.

You see, you spend a good deal of your life gripping a baseball and in the end it turns out that it was the other way around all the time. J. Bouton
