  • Richie Allen for HOF...?

    - ROY in 1964
    - MVP in 1972
    - 7-time All-Star
    - .292 lifetime BA
    - .912 OPS (lead league 4-times)
    - 156 OPS+ (ranks 21st all-time)

I know the guy was a head case; however his 11-year peak is difficult to ignore. From 1964-1974, Allen finished Top 10 in the following categories:

    OPS+ - 10 seasons
    OPS - 9
    SLG - 8
    RC - 8
    HR - 8
    xBH - 8
    OBP - 7
    BB - 7
    Int BB - 7
    BA - 6
    R - 6
    TB - 6
    3B - 6
    2B - 4
    RBI - 4
    H - 3
    MVP - 3
    SB - 2

(Note: many of those seasons were Top 5 finishes as well.)

He won one MVP, and probably should of won two. He was the best player in baseball in 1964, but because of the Phillies late season collapse, it cost him the award.

He's also the only player in baseball history to have two 40 win share seasons and not be in the hall of fame.

That said, D-ck Allen was truly a feared slugger, and one of THE best "all-around" hitters for 10+ years.

So... is there any chance he'll ever get in the HOF?
