THE WORLD SERIES HALL OF FAME - 2018 PLAYER ELECTION

It's based only on each person's world series record. This includes players, managers, executives, umpires, owners, etc....For a position player to automatically be eligible he must have had at least 25 career plate appearances in the world series. For a pitcher to automatically be eligible he must have had either 5 games pitched, or 15 career innings in the world series. Players who don't meet those minimums could be placed on the ballot in some cases. Players become eligible 5 years after their last world series appearance, provided that they are retired. So if they last appeared in a world series in 1964 and they retired after 1973, they would be eligible in 1974. If they last appeared in a world series in 1973 (like Mays) and retired after 1973, they would become eligible in 1978. For a manager, executive or owner to be eligible he must have been involved in at least 2 world series. For an umpire to be eligible he must have appeared in at least 4 different world series. Same rules for non players as far as becoming eligible 5 years after their last world series appearance, as long as they are retired. Anybody who dies before they are eligible becomes eligible the year after his death.

Candidates must get 75% to be elected. On the player's ballot voters can vote for up to 10 candidates in each election. I'll decide on the non-players ballot when I see how many candidates qualify. Player candidates can remain on the ballot for 10 years before dropping off. If they get 0 votes in any year they will drop off right away.

Now that we are up to guys who played in post season games other than the world series, please be careful when you check their stats. Just look at the world series years and totals.

We have 5 new players on the ballot this year.

Guys, this will be the last election for awhile as there could be some players who become eligible for the 2019 ballot if they do not play in 2018.

      MY BALLOT

      Roger Clemens
      Allen Craig
      Raúl Ibañez
      Dámaso Marté
      David Ortiz
      Alex Rodriguez
      Jim Thome
      Andres Torres

Piazza is now off the balllot so he drops of my list and new candidates Allen Craig and David Ortiz have been added. Allen Craig (1-0, 1.84) has very good numbers, but in just 2 starts with a total of 14.2 innings pitched.

Cain was in 2 series, 2010 and 2012, with one start in each. If you're still not voting for Clemens I don't see any way that you can vote for Cain.

                          This election is closed.

We had 6 ballots submitted, so the candidates needed 5 votes to be elected.

We have elected 2 new players to the hall.

This will be the last election for a while, so I will add in the new inductees to the first post in the thread. We'll have another election some time during the 2018 season after we find out who has retired.

I want to thank all you guys who have been with this project all or most of the way through. I've learned a lot about players who I did not realize were world series heroes long ago.

Jim, if you can pin this thread to the top of the forum I would appreciate it.

I have some issues with that I tried creating subforums for a couple of projects, and that worked out only OK--and this isn't that. This project is also going annual, which makes stickying it seem even less appropriate. OTOH, you have a legitimate interest in being able to easily access the last thread in this project. What I will propose is a post in the stickied introduction to the forum/resources thread. If you want to make that post so you can do the updating, feel free. If you'd rather have me make the post and rely on me for the updating, I'll do that. If you want a different solution, PM me and we'll try and reach a mutually agreeable answer.

That's fine, as long as I can find this post easily when the time comes.
