  • Hall of Famers that you have seen play

This wasn't that hard. I simply went down the HOF list.

Now, one has to actually see them play. I went to a Cardinal-Met game in 1972 and saw Willie Mays warm up, but he did not play.

Here's my list. I'd be interested to see other people's .
    Andre Dawson
    Bob Gibson
    Bruce Sutter
    Carl Yastrzemski
    Dave Winfield
    Eddie Murray
    Gary Carter
    Gaylord Perry
    George Brett
    Ivan Rodriquez
    Jim Rice
    Joe Morgan
    Joe Torre
    Johnny Bench
    Lou Brock
    Mike Schmidt
    Nolan Ryan
    Orlando Cepeda
    Ozzie Smith
    Paul Molitor
    Reggie Jackson
    Rickey Henderson
    Roberto Clemente
    Robin Yount
    Rollie Fingers
    Tom Seaver
    Tony Perez
    Willie McCovey
    Willie Stargell

    edit:
I just looked up a boxscore and I saw Phil Niekro pitch. I don't remember and have very good memory, but he definitely pitched. It was so cold at Candlestick that night, I was focused on keeping warm.

I'm only 35, so I've seen a lot of future Hall of Famers but not so many Hall of Famers.

Hall of Famers that I have seen live, off the top of my head:

Mike Mussina - Yankee Stadium and Camden Yards
    Wade Boggs - Yankee Stadium
    Mariano Rivera - Yankee Stadium
Vladimir Guerrero - Expos at Shea Stadium
Cal Ripken - vs Yankees in Camden Yards
    Roy Halladay - Yankee Stadium
    Pedro Martinez - Yankee Stadium
Tom Glavine - with the Mets in Shea Stadium
Paul Molitor - Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium
Dave Winfield - Twins at Yankee Stadium
Rickey Henderson - with Mets in Shea Stadium
Frank Thomas - with White Sox at Yankee Stadium
Ken Griffey Jr. - with Seattle at Yankee Stadium
    Edgar Martinez - Yankee Stadium
Chipper Jones - at Shea Stadium
    Tim Raines - Yankees
Mike Piazza - with Mets at Shea Stadium
Ivan Rodriguez - with Marlins at Shea Stadium
    Kirby Puckett - Yankee Stadium

    I've probably forgotten a couple.

    My top 10 players:

    1. Babe Ruth
    2. Barry Bonds
    3. Ty Cobb
    4. Ted Williams
    5. Willie Mays
    6. Alex Rodriguez
    7. Hank Aaron
    8. Honus Wagner
    9. Lou Gehrig
    10. Mickey Mantle

HOFers that I've seen at games I've been at (does not include guys on bench or people I've seen on TV) - sorted by year inducted:

Carl Yastrzemski (Sunday August 28, 1983) - favorite game of my childhood. Bull Luzinski hits two (including a rooftop blast), Harold Baines hits one. Oil Can Boyd gets torched. Stupid White Sox fan behind us says he doesn't mind if Jim Rice hits one or two to make the game close. I turn around and look at him like he's insane! Yaz pinch hit in the game.
      Jim Palmer
      Rollie Fingers
      Robin Yount
      Nolan Ryan
      George Brett
      Carlton Fisk
      Dave Winfield
      Kirby Puckett
      Eddie Murray
      Paul Molitor
      Dennis Eckersley
      Ryne Sandberg
      Wade Boggs
      Cal Ripken
      Jim Rice
      Andre Dawson
      Robbie Alomar
      Frank Thomas
      Pedro Martinez
Ken Griffey Jr. (sigh, when he was on the ChiSox it was so depressing as to 10 years earlier when he was bombing them out)
      Ivan Rodriguez
      Tim Raines
      Jack Morris
      Alan Trammel
      Vlad Guerrero
      Jim Thome
      Harold Baines
      Roy Halladay
      Edgar Martinez
      Mariano Rivera
      Lee Smith

Almost all were at old or new Comiskey Park when playing against or for the White Sox. The Cubs guys from a limited number of Cubs games. The Brewers guys (Yount, Fingers, Molitor) at County Stadium besides at Comiskey.

Guys who I maybe might have seen, but I'm not sure - they were of the correct era, but not sure:

      Rod Carew
      Tom Seaver
      Reggie Jackson
      Steve Carlton
      Phil Niekro
      Don Sutton
      Tony Perez
      Goose Gossage
      Bert Blyleven
      Randy Johnson
      Mike Mussina
      A few more random NLers

If a HOFer played at Shea Stadium between 1979 and its closing, chances are I saw them play live.

Oddly enough, I haven't been to a major league game since 1998. I traveled a lot when I was in the Navy, back in the day

I'll include active guys that will clearly be HOFers too and some "PED" guys that would have been HOFers otherwise:

                    Mike Schmidt
                    George Brett
                    Ozzie Smith
                    Gary Carter
                    Eddie Murray
                    Dennis Eckersley
                    Ryne Sandberg
                    Tony Gwynn
                    Rickey Henderson
                    Andre Dawson
                    Roberto Alomar
                    Barry Larkin
                    Tom Glavine
                    Greg Maddux
                    Craig Biggio
                    Randy Johnson
                    Mike Piazza
                    Ken Griffey Jr.
                    Jeff Bagwell
                    Ivan Rodriguez
                    Chipper Jones
                    Jim Thome
                    Trevor Hoffman
                    Edgar Martinez
                    Lee Smith
                    Mariano Rivera

I honestly have no idea if I saw Harold Baines or not. Never struck me as something I needed to remember if it happened.

                    ----------------------
                    Barry Bonds
                    Roger Clemens
                    Alex Rodriguez
                    Mark McGwire
                    Sammy Sosa
                    Gary Sheffield

                    -----------------------
                    Derek Jeter
                    Albert Pujols
                    Clayton Kershaw
                    Miguel Cabrera
                    Adrian Beltre

I mean we have all seen tons of guys like Beltran, Posey, Votto, and Molina, who regardless of what we personally feel, may or may not actually be elected someday. So I tied to tick with the guys we know will/would have.

I may have seen Sutton, Carlton, or Seaver pitch as a kid, but I wouldn't remember it.

For one reason or another, I just haven't seen many live ballgames... maybe a half-dozen in total over the past two decades. But, from who I remember:

                      Wade Boggs
Pedro Martinez (although he technically doesn't count because he wasn't starting the night I saw the Sox play the Rays, who were starting the man above at the hot corner)
Mariano Rivera (his last game at Fenway; the Sox held a great pre-game ceremony in his honor. Another guy who didn't actually play when I saw him, but I did get to, well, see the man in person from behind home plate.

And if we're including futures (and these guys will not by any stretch of the imagination fail to get elected on their first ballot, maybe second max):
Derek Jeter (^same game as Rivera)
                      Ichiro Suzuki (same)

and finally, at that game as well, Alex Rodriguez (hey, maybe down the line his infamy will become secondary to his incredible on-field accomplishments and he'll get in. not holding my breath though.)

I have been really lucky to see Clemens, Maddux, Glavine (x2), Unit, and Kershaw (x2) start. No HOF hunting or anything, just dumb luck.

Well, the Maddux game was Game 1 in the 2000 NLDS...the Ankiel game. So that one was not so much dumb luck.

Minor league games can also be a lot of fun to watch and are cheap. I am going to see a Bristol Bees game in a few weeks. First row right behind home plate. $11.00 per ticket and a free beer

I've met a bunch of HOFers who I never saw play through meet and greets when I was a kid. I have an autograph book with these HOFers in it:

Lots of HOfers who played into the time I started watching MLB games and lots of non-HOFers as well.
