    Baseball Fever Hall of Fame (BBFHoF) - Rules and Guidelines

    Statement of Purpose
    The Baseball Fever Hall of Fame (BBFHoF) was established to honor the greatest players and contributors in baseball history. We seek to match our wits against those of the National Hall of Fame in Cooperstown by comparing and contrasting our selections to their own. Our electors vote monthly until we get closer to matching the number of inductees in Cooperstown.

    Voter Qualifications
    Voters must be members of Baseball Fever in good standing and must consent to adhere to the rules laid out within this document, including the commitment to give reasonable time and thought to their ballots. All prospective participants should read these rules and guidelines before joining the discussion or casting a ballot!

    Types and Frequency of Elections
    We hold separate monthly elections for former players and contributors. Ballots are accepted through the 25th of each month. Results are posted after the 25th and a new election thread will be posted by the 1st of every month.

    Candidate Eligibility
    Major, Negro, and Japanese League players retired before 2005 are eligible for election on the Players’ Ballot. To be eligible for the Contributors’ Ballot, an individual must be retired, or be past his 60th birthday. Induction in either category excludes an individual from further consideration in the other.

    Assembling a Ballot
    Voters may submit either ballot or both. All ballots should be cast in the active Election thread. Candidates should be listed in alphabetical order. Voters are asked to list the 25 players and/or 15 contributors most worthy of election.

    Player candidates are to be considered for their performance as a player and its impact on their team’s record. Contributor candidates are to be considered for the quality and impact of their contributions to their team/s, league/s and the Game in general.

    Voters are instructed to vote for a full ballot in any election in which they choose to participate until the BBF Hall of Fame reaches 90% of the capacity of the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. Ballots with fewer than 25 (or 15) candidates submitted before that time may, at my discretion, be discounted.

    All ballots following the above guidelines will be tabulated at the end of the month. Candidates receiving support on at least 75% of the ballots will be inducted into the BBFHoF.

    If a voter wishes to pledge support for an unspecified negro or japanese league player, the voter may insert the following line into his ballot (in lieu of a specific player): "leading non-MLB player". This may further be designated as either "leading negro leaguer" or "leading japanese leaguer", in accordance with the wishes of the voter. When ballots are tallied, any such vote - and there can be more than one per ballot - will be alloted to the leading vote-getter among candidates of that type and distributed, per instructions, by Chancellor when the results are tallied. This rule was added in recognition that there are some well-intentioned, but less knowledgeable negro/japanese league enthusiasts who still wish to participate but don't necessarily have the time to do so.

    We encourage voters to explain both the omission of any candidates who received two-thirds of the vote in the previous election, and the choice of a candidate who has not yet received a vote. These are suggestions – they are designed solely to facilitate critical thinking on the part of the electorate – and are best carried out in the Discussion forum.

    BBFHoF Threads
    Three BBFHoF threads remain “stickied” at all times.

    The Baseball Fever Hall of Fame thread contains assorted lists of candidate, election, inductee and voter data. This is updated by Chancellor upon the conclusion of each election.

    The BBFHoF: Discussion thread is a general purpose thread for the discussion of anything related to the BBFHoF. This is the place for questions, petitions, debate and discussion. We are proud to announce that, with over 60,000 views and nearly 4,000 posts, it is one of the longest running threads on Baseball Fever.

    The BBFHoF Monthly Election thread is where to post your ballot (and only your ballot.) This thread is replenished each month for each new election.

                              My March ballot

                              key:
                              red=Japanese League
                              blue=Negro Leagues
                              green=19th century

                              I had three of the four inductees from February, and I've decided to go for Rollie Fingers over Tony Mullane, whose parachute hasn't shown any signs of opening. My new additions are Coveleski, Stan Hack and George Wright.
