What the heck are you talking about?
"It is a simple matter to erect a Hall of Fame, but difficult to select the tenants." -- Ken Smith
"I am led to suspect that some of the electorate is very dumb." -- Henry P. Edwards
"You have a Hall of Fame to put people in, not keep people out." -- Brian Kenny
"There's no such thing as a perfect ballot." -- Jay Jaffe

Neither the title nor the post make any sense.

I don't think collusion has anything to do with any of those players not having a contract right now. There are younger players out there who would command much less to perform as well or better (or with far less drama. You can hear the giant sucking sound Ross Perot talked about in 1992.) than the players mentioned in the first post.
Lofton is not a first balloter. He likely won't get elected. Sosa has a shot, but since McGwire fell so far short, his chances can't be too great.

I could go on, but why add to what has been said over and over and over again in that context. Nothing new to see there, folks. Move along.

Impending Trial Not Owner Collusion Is reason Bonds hasn't been signed

I don't think that there is collusion not to sign Barry Bonds, who was quoted in stories last week that he still wants to play. I think that there is a natural reluctance to sign someone whose season might be interrupted or ended by a trial. I think if the FEDS gave Bonds a trial date for Nov. '08 or later, thereby assuring that he could play unencumbered throughout the baseball season, that teams would change their tune, and that Bonds would already be signed by some MLB team for 2008.

In Bonds, Piazza and Sosa, you're looking at 40-year old DHs more or less. How many of these guys' asking price will be modestly worth their likely production? As for Lofton, he's great to have on your roster as a 4th outfielder unless you're really out of options, you're contending and he's only going to command a couple million.

The biggest reason these guys haven't been signed is the availability of similar talent at lower costs. In short, they've priced themselves out of the market.

Bingo. I guess the reason that love decided to stick it here was that Piazza and Sosa are "supposed" to be Hall of Famers.
