    This is awesome:

    http://news.yahoo.com/video/pedro-ma...010700562.html

Pedro Martinez says he had a chance to take the short path and not miss a handful of starts along the way. He says it was better to miss the starts than to miss the respect he was shown this week.

    That's Awesome.

He does not say steroids or PEDs, but says short path and says he had more than one opportunity to cheat.

I'd like it if he'd quit before his career ERA gets over 3.00.

    He's a sure-fire Hall of Famer.

Instead of being knocked off the ballot one way or another (either by induction or getting less than 5%), they could linger and draw large numbers of votes. McGwire has already shown this.

Good point, because if those 3 retire directly after this season, they may have to deal with Clemens still being on the ballot.

It depends on who is held over from previous elections. Does Mattingly or Raines keep Martinez off someone's ballot?

For me, I would vote for Pedro before Randy. As to my opinion on Maddux, I believe the "Cy Young Award" should be renamed in Greg's honor.

After seeing Pedro's stats, then I think it will be very difficult to keep him off the first ballot.

Ahhh. And I was going to make a comment how, on a scale of 1-10, Pedro Martinez is an 11.

I didn't realize how long he has played.
One thing I find curious is that his most "Similar Pitcher" is a player who retired 100 years before Pedro broke in. If only Martinez could bat like Bob Caruthers.

If all of Randy Johnson, Greg Maddux, and Pedro Martinez retire the same year, would that hurt Martinez's 1 ballot chances much?

I expect Martinez in the HOF and very soon. I would be surprised if he doesn't make it first ballot. But I would definitely say second at the very latest.
