    I'd give Tiant the edge
Mythical SF Chronicle scouting report: "That Jeff runs like a deer. Unfortunately, he also hits AND throws like one." I am Venus DeMilo - NO ARM! I can play like a big leaguer, I can field like Luzinski, run like Lombardi. The secret to managing is keeping the ones who hate you away from the undecided ones. I am a triumph of quantity over quality. I'm almost useful, every village needs an idiot.

I say it is a push.

Personally, I pick Morris of course.

Tiant in the same bracket as Hunter???
1968 and 1984, the greatest ever.

I actually have Jack Morris ahead of him by a good margin. And now that I look at it, I have Vida Blue just ahead of Tiant.

I would put both Tiant and Morris in if I was in authority to do so. Vida Blue doesn't do that much for me. Maybe, I think, like Gooden - and this is just my perception and should not be considered fact - he just seemed to squander the opportunity to have accomplished so much more.

                    Let's see
Hunter: 104 ERA+, 3449 IP, 5x in top10 K/BB, 11 adjusted pitcher runs above average, 206 Win Shares, 112% of average run support
Tiant: 114 ERA+, 3486 IP, 8x in top10 K/BB, 197 adjusted pitcher runs above average, 256 Win Shares, 105% of average run support

Maybe it is a laugh that Hunter is in the same bracket as Tiant?

Tiant not only gets the edge in pitching, he also has a lot more of an edge in character, eccentricity, and popularity.

As you know, that is just so much mumbo-jumbo to me.

I think you can understand ERA compared with league averages, adjusted for park factors.
I'm pretty sure you understand innings pitched
I think you can understand the ratio of strikeouts to walks, and the best 10 each year of those pitchers

The one HUGE advantage Morris has over Tiant is game 7 of the 1991 World Series, arguably the greatest pitching performance ever in a World Series.

Not bad, although Mathewson basically did it THREE STRAIGHT times
