The poll is curently 86-0 in favor of Griffey's HoF induction.

Only the casual fan who doesn't know that OBP and OPS+ are stats that are very important, something Bonds (90's only) has a huge advantage in.

So how does resonating with the casual fan so greatly make one underrated? Regardless of the baseball acumen, to say Griffey was underrated means something is getting ignored.

Unless he was taking a page from Cowtipper's book. But I at least figured Cowtipper was joking.

And many/most of the media and baseball talking heads. Usually expressed as an obvious truth, not "was Junior the best player in the 90's?" but "everybody knows he was the best player of the 90's, there's no other option".

I think our very own Sultan believes Griffey was better than Bonds in the 1990's.

            • Yeah -you can call Griffey great, and many other things, but certainly not underrated. The national media had their lips glued to his backside for most of his whole career. How many players has the media idle-worshiped more than Griffey the past 30 years? Very few if any. Fans continued to elect him into All-Star games well after he was a really good player (and selected him as #1 for the decade time and time again in various polls) and even advanced sabermetrics such has WAR have him in the top 30's all time as a player. Who is underrating him? Many say Bonds was better, but most everybody would pick Griffey second from the era. Saying one guy was better does not make Griffey "underrated" overall.

                Frank Thomas can argue that.

                • Black Ink Batting - 26 (70), Average HOFer ≈ 27

This will be a reason at least one writer uses to not vote for him in 2016.

                    • He could have been one of the all time greats. But he fell short due to injuries. Sad really. In graph form....

Through the 2000 season Griffey was basically this generation's Willie Mays/Hank Aaron. Then the injuries came. Sigh.

Yeah, he was at 74 WAR after his 1st year in Cinn. He ended with 80 11 seasons later.

Same with his defense; through his first year with Cinn, TZ has Griffey as a +83 run CF. After that (injuries) he was -100 runs.

That's a bit of a stretch, but a sure fire HOF anyway.
