Eddie Miller played in the big leagues from 1936 to 1950, hitting .238 with 1,270 hits and 263 doubles. Despite his anemic offensive statistics, he was an All-Star seven times, garnered MVP votes eight times (finishing as high as 10th in the balloting). He was stellar defensively, leading league shortstops in fielding percentage six times, putouts three times, assists once, defensive WAR once and games played three times.
He wasn't totally useless offensively, either. In 1947, he led the league in doubles and he whacked over 10 home runs four times in a season. He eclipsed the 30-double mark twice, the 70-RBI mark three times and the 70-runs scored mark once. Against Hall of Famer Robin Roberts, he was a .375 career hitter!
Statistically, he is similar to one Hall of Famer: Leo Durocher. He is also similar to Zoilo Versailles, Mike Bordick, Alex Gonzalez, Johnny Logan, Marty Marion, Rafael Ramirez, Spike Owen, Jack Wilson and Alex Gonzalez.
What do you think about Eddie Miller? Should he be in the Hall of Fame? Did he have Hall of Fame potential?
