  • Should voters allowed to submit BLANK Ballots

Do you think a voter should be allowed to submit a blank ballot?

Some of the reasons are someone should be a first time balloter or shouldnt be unanimous.

If someone doesnt vote for Tom Seaver, Nolan Ryan or Willie Mays they shouldnt be voting

Fortunately with hundreds of ballot, the few blank ones really don't make a difference. That, to me, is a bigger concern. No sabotage.

An argument could be made for not permitting blank ballots, though I'm not in favor of it at the moment. What they absolutely need to do is require public ballots. What do the voters have to hide?

One of our local writers and BBWAA members was on the radio today. He didn't select anybody, but instead of sending a blank ballot, he simply held onto it. His reasoning was that he wasn't sure how many other voters would return blank ballots and he didn't feel it was fair because it counts against the overall percentage. As CCN mentioned, there weren't enough blanks to really matter.

If you want to not count the blank ballots against overall percentage, thats a fair idea

Blank ballots CAN make a difference. Just ask Nellie Fox and Jim Bunning.

Change the HOF rules: allow for blank ballots, but make it clear they will not be included in the total for figuring percentages. Let the voters with blank ballots have their say, justifying their position and trying to persuade their fellow voters. But don't allow them any potential to sabotage the electing of players favored by 75% of their brethren.

I can see if there is a particularly peculiarly weak class. It's just there were 8-18 viable candidates there. On my imaginary ballot(s) I probably didn't have room for guys like Lofton that I've groused about being one and out on other threads.
