  • 2014 Drop-offs

From Baseball Reference, here is the potential 2014 ballot. There are a lot of qualified candidates, but the ten name limit means many will be left off ballots despite the writers supporting them. Who do you expect to drop off the ballot due to the five percent rule?

All of the 1st ballot players besides Maddux, Glavine, Thomas, Kent and Mussina will drop off. Because that still leaves 22 players still on the ballot, and most writers only vote for 6 or 7, that means that Palmeiro, Sosa and maybe even McGwire could be left with less than 5% which would certainly be newsworthy

I fear Jeff Kent will have trouble maintaining 5% support. Sosa and Palmeiro too.

Kent may get over 5%. But he'll be another in the guilt by association group. He played in BALCO's backyard and his numbers ballooned once he went to the Left Coast. Right or wrong, that's how I think the voters will think.
