Mike Piazza - Which hat should he wear?

The early returns show Piazza slightly above the 75% threshold for 2015 induction. I expect that to drop before the results are revealed, but should he gain induction in 2015, which hat should he wear on his plaque?

With the Dodgers, he had 177 HR, 563 RBI, .331 BA, 31.9 WAR
With the Mets, he had 220 HR, 655 RBI, .296 BA, 24.5 WAR

I agree. Even I almost voted "Mets".

Maybe it's my East Coast bias, but I voted Mets. For some reason, the Mets are the first team I think of when I think of Piazza. Maybe it's because most of of playoff appearances and his one World Series were with the Mets, or because he played there a little longer, or maybe because he got more ink whilst playing there. Still, his best years were with the Dodgers, so I could go either way on this. They should make a half Dodgers/half Mets cap for him.

If they gave him a Brooklyn Dodgers cap, would that be close enough?

            Both teams wear Dodger blue.
The Mets have the best, smartest fans in baseball.

I thought the Dodgers wore "royal" blue?

Just depict him with a backward batting helmet on his head. Problem solved!

The Mets are where he went and became a team leader and post season sensation, so I'll go with the Mets.

Since its in the Hall's hands, they'd probably "correct" the mistake (according to Met fans) with Carter going in as an Expo by putting a Met cap on his plaque.

I could see Piazza going the Maddux route and demanding a blank cap/backwards helmet.

Another good question though, if its not a Dodger cap, do the Dodgers retire #31? Be the first time a Dodger HOFer put in nearly enough time elsewhere to be considered a true great for another franchise.

I think he'll go in as a Met. Somewhat similar to how Frank Robinson was far better as a Red, but more famous as an Oriole (though I realize Piazza did not win a triple crown with the Mets).

He went to more playoffs, went further in them, and played longer (3941 PA vs 3017; or 972 G vs 726).

I see him more as a Dodger, but agree with some that he likely would go in as a Met...if ever elected

A blank cap would be nice. It keeps fans on both coasts happy, or dissatisfied. One or the other. Why not ask Mike? Let him pick.

Garvey, Lopes, Russell, and Cey started 833 times and the Dodgers went 498-335, for a .598 winning percentage. That’s equal to a team going 97-65 over a season. On those occasions when at least one of them missed his start, the Dodgers were 306-267-1, which is a .534 clip. That works out to a team going 87-75. So having all four of them added 10 wins to the Dodgers per year.
