    BBF Progressive HoF Election: 2014

    PLEASE READ BEFORE VOTING!

    Format and Rules
    Voting Rules:
Voters may vote for between 0-15 candidates. Votes will be made public and voters are encouraged to post their ballots in the thread and not view results before voting. PLEASE LIMIT YOUR BALLOT TO 15 VOTES AT MOST. EXCESS VOTES MAY RESULT IN YOUR BALLOT BEING DISQUALIFIED.
-Blank Ballots: A "None of the Above" option is available if you believe no one is worthy and you wish to submit a blank ballot. This option is not to be taken lightly and it is strongly urged that it be used only after the utmost consideration, as non-votes carry great weight. Additionally, if using this option, it would be of great contribution to post your rationale.

Voting Criteria: Players are to be evaluated within the context of the era in which they played and the history of the game to that point. Players are not to be held to standards that would materialize at a time beyond the year of the current election. Modern statistical analysis is permitted but must be applied strictly within historical context not to go beyond the year of the current election. Players are to be judged based solely on their playing careers. Other, non-playing contributions may be considered to the extent that they coincided with a player's playing career (such as a player/manager).

Thoughtfulness and Editing Ballots: Please review and thoughtfully consider the candidates before voting, and make sure you have accurately filled out your ballot before submitting. Requests for editing ballots after the fact will generally not be honored. Exceptions might be made if a voter accidentally voted for the wrong player or accidentally went over the voting limit (but it is strongly encourage you to do your best to prevent either from happening).

Required Support: Players receiving at least 75% support in an election will be elected. Players need at least 5% support to appear on the next ballot.

Player Eligibility: Players eligible for an election will have last played at least 5 years prior to the election year and have appeared in at least 10 Major League seasons. If a player appeared in less than 10 seasons, he may still be eligible if he had a minimum of 3000 PAs or 1500 IP, though extra scrutiny will be applied. Players will remain on the ballot for 15 years, provided they continue to receive at least 5% of the vote, at which point they will become indefinitely eligible for periodic elections conducted by the Veterans Committee.
    - Death Exception: For players who meet the criteria for consideration, but die before their first year of eligibility can have the five year waiting period waived and placed on the ballot the year of death or the year after death if it occurs after December 1.

Election Period: Elections will close exactly one week after starting. The next election might not commence for another day or two.

Conduct Policy: Every vote is a voter's opinion on who should be elected to the Hall of Fame. It is our responsibility as voters to be respectful towards each other. Personal attacks should not be tolerated and you should notify a moderator rather than allowing an argument to escalate and further derail discussion of the candidates.

There are several intriguingly borderline candidates on the ballot - Belle, Brown, Delgado, Giles, Lofton, Saberhagen, Sheffield, and Stieb are all similar to at least a player or two already enshrined by this project ... the key is sorting out whether that's the sort of standard I want to hold myself to. I've voted for Belle, Lofton, Saberhagen, and Stieb in the past, and I will likely continue to do so. I'm interested to see how others feel about Brown, Delgado, Giles, and Sheffield.

            1. Carlos Delgado (don't think he is a hall of famer, but wanted to round my ballot out at 10)
            2. Randy Johnson
            3. Jeff Kent
            4. Pedro Martinez
            5. Mark McGwire

I mentioned this in the last thread, Mike Piazza is not listed under catchers. Just thought I would mention it so it got updated.

You would rather vote for a guy who you don't think deserves it than have a non-rounded ballot?

I think he is a borderline candidate who has a much better argument for the Hall of Fame then players like Stieb, Cone, Olerud, Hersheiser, Lofton, Mattingly, and Saberhagan. Find it not different then someone who said that eventhough they made a mistake on not voting for Mussina they don't want it properly adjusted. How that makes sense, I am still trying to figure out. That now effects Kent, Sheffield, or one of the steroid players getting it. This is a simple project with a whole lot worse players than Carlos Delgado in.

Picking Delgado because he is better than some other candidates is a sound reason. Believing that choosing him makes more sense than what Mark did is also a fair argument. However, in your original post, you claimed neither - only that you selected him , albeit undeserving, in order to round your selections to 10. That was what I was asking about. I mean, do what you want to, obviously. I was just curious, that's all.

Why is Jeff Kent being snubbed once again? The guy was a 5 time all-star, MVP, won several silver sluggers, scores well for the WAR crowd, and scores well foir the OPS+ crowd? He's one of the best hitting second basemen to have ever played the game and he is also an outspoken anti-steroid guy.

Its a joke that Jeff Kent is being snubbed like this, absolutly should be in the Hall of Fame. Also curious to see who didnt vote for Pedro and the reason why.
