If you are not considering denfense then the choice is still A-Rod.A-Rod has produced fantastic numbers from two of the hardest positions in baseball to get quality offense from.

Vlad still has 5+ years ahead of him but A-Rod stands above as an all-time great.

      Vladimir.

His OPS+ is higher (147 to 143), and he creates more runs per 27 outs (8.40 to 7.94). Plus, Vlad hits for a better average.

A-rod because he has more power and hits for a slightly lower batting AVG he also drives in more runs

just looking at raw stats of course

A-ROD's career high in homers is 57
VlAD'S career high in homers is 44
A-ROD'S career high in BA was .358
VlADS'S career high in BA was .345
A-ROD'S career high in rbis was 142
          VLAD's career high in rbi's was 131

again just to start the disscusion

A-Rod .358 avg came in 1996 as a 20 year old. His high since then is .318. Since 2002 he's had seasons of .298 and .286. Vlad career high .345 came in 2000. Since then he's had seasons of .336, .330, .337, and he's batting .335 this season. Vlad has hit over .300 every full season.

            Career:
            Vlad .325/.390/.589
            A-Rod .306/.383/.583

I think in part of that is because A-rod swings for the fences and BA is overrated

Obviously, A-Rod has better numbers than Vlad, but Vlad is "rawer" offensively. Vlad can take a pitch on his toes and knock it out the park. But, both are similar players, power and speed, and good defensive players.

                  But, you don't include OPS+ or RC/27.......

A-Rod has better traditionalist numbers, but, nowadays we have new, better ways of evaluating players, which shows us that Vlad is actually slightly better.

                      Vlad to be here

A Rod for the career, and the ability to adjust his swing to his circumstances, at >$20M/yr. one needs to swing for the fences.

Vlad for the last two weeks of the season, please.

Guererro has a .318 EqA, probably the best adjusted statistic for batting average. A-Rod's EqA is .308.

Guererro's EqR is almost 200 runs more than A-Rods for his career. It seems that A-Rod had his peak season at 20 and has been going down since. Perhaps he is only a career .290/.300 type hitter and his 2000 year was just outstanding. Vlad on the other hand seems to be a .330 type hitter who maybe just had a bad year or two.

I'd give it to Vlad...plus I think his defense (I know I know) and his rocket of an arm are outstanding.

A-Rod, for no particular reason. Just a better player. He's cooler, and has more panache, elan, softer hands, better amplitude in his stroke, a little more pop.

Umm...excuse me? Bill, haven't you seen the recent TV commerical with A-Rod and Vlad? Vlad hits a ball to the moon and A-Rod doesn't!

A-Rod I chose primarily because i believe he will decline much less rapdily than Vlad...players with poor plate discipline tend to die hard...even if they happen to be great bad ball hitters in their prime...A-Rod will last into his 40s...Vlad will be out of baseball by age 37. Just a humble prediction.
