Whenever I swung at a bad ball a little bit high or even inside I didn't like it, but when I swung at a bad ball that was in the dirt or outside, Jesus, I just wanted to puke because I knew that if I hit it I wouldn't have done anything with it anyway. -- Ted Williams

If you have him 25th, you are overrating him and not taking his numbers into context, imo. Heilmann might make the top-25 hitters, but that's about it. He was a poor defensive player at a corner OF position and his baserunning didn't add to his value.

Eddie Mathews was clearly better overall. Heilmann was actually the third best Detroit corner OF, behind Crawford and Kaline.

--I agree 100% with Wee Willie. Heilman is relegated to DH on the all time Tigers team. He might my my top 100, but only towards the tail end.
