                      1. Willie Mays
                      2. Christy Mathewson - the number two/three battle was extremely close. I could understand anyone who picked Mel over Christy.

I'm going to go against the grain here. Mathewson might have been the best pitcher in NL history. Mays is the best player of the past 70 years, but I'll choose Mathewson over him because he was the face of the franchise during its most successful and glamorous era. His celebrity transcended baseball. He was chosen as a charter Hall of Famer over Cy Young. He is greatly underrated now.

I love Willie Mays, but seeing so many choose Mathewson fourth, I feel it necessary to make a statement about Mathewson's value.

                        Christy Mathewson
                        Willie Mays
                        Mel Ott
                        Carl Hubbell
                        Barry Bonds
                        Willie McCovey
                        Juan Marichal
                        Bill Terry
                        Roger Connor
                        Amos Rusie/Freddie Fitzsimmons

Christy belongs no lower than 3rd I had him 3rd.

Btw, the list after yours doesn't have Mathewson in the top 10. That would be original HOF class Christy Mathewson. Christy has been drastically downgraded on this site for years. I rank him the 2nd best pitcher ever. Going against Mays and Bonds is tough. What other team has 2 all time top 4 players?
