Folks! We found another anti-Russie conspirator! Batten down the hatches!

Mathewson was way better than Ott for real. Mathewson is a giant of the game in a way Ott doesn't sniff. I think Jouette Meekin was considered faster than Rusie on his own club. Far less successful of course. Rusie isn't even ten years older than Mathewson.
I agree Mathewson was a giant of the game, but Ott was almost as great. He stacks up pretty well to Stan Musial (OPS+ 155 to OPS+ 159), and is an inner circle HOFer. Ott had to share a city with Ruth, Gehrig and DiMaggio, so his fame suffered. John McGraw kept him on the Giants at 17 because he didn't want any Minor League instructors to touch his swing, which McGraw considered perfect. He was a a prodigy. Ott is underrated, and I chose him over Bonds because Ott was probably the superior talent before Bonds started using PEDs.

This is why I have Christy Matthewson as the Giants all time #1 starting pitcher which all due respect to Juan Marichal and Carl Hubbell.

So you have him 8th and I had him 11th. Not really a gap worthy of one proclaiming the other person's ignorance. There is not much separating 8 from 11 or 12.

    Not exactly an extremist take.
