  • Darren Oliver

Darren Oliver was the last active player to meet two criterion. First, he was the last active player to have been a teammate of Nolan Ryan, both played on the 1993 Rangers. Second, Oliver was the last player active from the 4-division era of MLB, which ended after the 1993 season.
The playoffs should expand eventually, but only if MLB itself expands.

See my blog for more info.

Darren Oliver and Nolan Ryan are also the only players to have played for each of the first four expansion franchises: Astros, Mets, Angels, and Senators/Rangers.

His father Bob Oliver also played with Nolan Ryan (California Angels 1972-1974).
