The ballot will include 26 Players for elections #57 thru 63. So, in this thread we will determine the 15 players who will be added to the ballot, along with the ten carryovers, for the 61st election. Basically, someone nominates a player for inclusion on the ballot, and two other people need to support the nomination for the player to make the ballot. When we get our fourteen guys the nominations are closed for this round. Someone then will start the Voting thread where we will rank the 26 players.

You should limit yourself to only three Nomination + support votes in a calendar day. To be clear, this does not mean that if you Nominate three players at 11:59 pm that you can then make three more votes two minutes later at 12:01 am. After your third vote in a day wait at least six hours or until midnight ET, whichever comes later. We want to encourage participation from different BBF members.

It is helpful if someone can post an update after every couple of ballots, as it can be difficult to see the current nominating status of every player. I will try to keep an updated list of the ballot in this post.

This thread is also for discussion of the players. However, discussion should be in a separate post from your nominate/support votes. But don’t take this too strictly; a brief comment along with your nominate/support vote is fine.

Please post any questions concerning this project in the Proposal thread. Thanks for playing!

                Modern Mashers:

                1st: Jose Bautista
                1st: Bryce Harper
1st: Nelson Cruz - starting hot in 2021, DH penalty is a bit stiff for me and has kept him off the radar. A monster in the playoffs, 1019 OPS, 189 PA at .62 WPA (besides the defensive gaffe)

                UPDATE:

                2nd: Dave Concepcion, Lee Smith,
1st: Jose Bautista, Pancho Coimbre, Nelson Cruz, JD Drew, Rollie Fingers, Mark Grace, Bryce Harper, Bill Holland, Davey Lopes, Bobby Mathews, Tip O'Neill

Nominate: Harold Baines, Bill Mazeroski, Paul Konerko

Guys, we've elected Lenny Dykstra already...isn't there room for arguably the greatest defenders at their position (Bill Mazeroski, Ray Schalk (ranked low on the voting ballots))? Isn't defense more important than guys with 3-4 years as a regular? I understand some are going with strict mathematical calculations, but for any others, it seems like Schalk and Maz are getting downgraded quite a bit...

We're already electing players who only have some narrative (Cuban, etc.)...why not these guys?

Defense is important and should be considered. Ideally, overall play, both offense & defense should be a major criteria, not just whatever said candidate exceeds in Both Schalk & Mazeroski fall far short on offense and many bashers, mashers, smashers & thrashers are severely deficient defensively and have been tremendously overrated.

Agreed, the whole picture should be reviewed. There aren't that many unfortunately who excelled in the field, at plate, for a long time and maintained health...those are the easy HOFers.

In general, offense is more important than defense, especially when looking from a base zero system (such as Win Shares) as compared to a net zero system like WAR/WAA....

...however, when a player has a component or two which is notably great, I prefer that to players who might grade out higher on combined skills, but all the particular elements aren't so notable. Basically, for players at this level, I'd prefer to have the guys who were great at one thing at least, even if the rest of their game wasn't amazing.

Edit: what a disjointed ramble...hope my general point comes across.
