It's between Mays and Bonds for me, and I went with Mays, in the end.

Interestingly, I wouldn't consider those the best seasons by almost any of those guys. Why these years in particular?
Hey, this is my public apology for suddenly disappearing and missing out on any projects I may have neglected.

      alex, mark, hack, howard, jackson

those were their best years for sure.

      mays is arguable

bonds' top 3 (2001, 2002 and 2004) would obviously win. but his '03 season isn't as strong

hack wilson had 101 more RBI's than bonds in these selected seasons, how can Bonds be more valuable?

How was that for sure A-Rod's best season? It was probably his best year on offense, but not by much. He was not, however, playing top-of-the-line defense at shortstop. I don't see how it was definitively his best.

Wilson's team has 36 point lead in OBP over Bonds and he had 195 more at-bats because he wasn't getting walked. Put people on base for him a bit more often and give him 200 more at bats and you don't think Bonds can make up that RBI difference?

He created 74 more runs. That's just the start of how he could be more valuable.

you can use all the If's and But's but the reality is Hack Wilson had 101 more RBI. and bonds was a slow old man in 2003 which hurts his defense.

I'd say Mark Mcgwire's 98 was better than Bonds 03.

as for A-rod, how was this NOT his best season? career high OBP and slugging %, RBI, Runs scored, OPS+, what else do you need??

Because he had 200 more at-bats and a team that got on-base more.

You just ignore that fact? That makes 0 sense.

RBIs are a team stat. You can't get an RBI if you can't swing the bat (unless the bases are loaded, of course), and even if you do you won't get an RBI if no one is on base.

Great defense at the most difficult position? It was likely his best offensive season, but he was close in past years while playing great defense at a much more difficult position.
