Johnny Mize' omission here is just as troubling as the Johnny Mize omission I saw on the other "All-Missouri Team" thread an hour ago. Why no love for the real "Big Cat?" He was Albert and The Big Hurt before Albert and The Big Hurt.

I simply forgot about Mize. No insult towards The Big Cat intended.
Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.-Crash Davis

I know-I just thought it was funy that two people left him off. I wonder how people would compare his start with the Cardinals with Albert's? I feel a thread coming on.

Hornsby was a total brain cramp on my part... I don't like the man, but I think I could put up with someone who put in the five-year run that Hornsby did for the Cardinals in the 20's, despite the fact that he had the interpersonal skills of Albert Belle combined with a constant desire to worm himself into the manager's job.

I considered Mize, but feel that his six years with the Cardinals fall behind Pujols' seven (so far) and Sisler's seven-year stretch as a great player with the Browns. I'm going to use OPS+ for my comparisons, since I don't know where to look up season-by season win shares. Overall, I can't see Mize displacing Pujols, who has a slightly higher peak and one extra year on Mize, with more to come. Mize could displace Sisler based on consistency of his peak, but Sisler had a longer incumbency (even when I don't include his post-injury career) and a slightly higher peak. Sisler also had the reputation as the amazing defensive player that Mize didn't.

Hornsby was a coach on the 62 Mets.
According to player accounts, he was entirely useless.
Always cranky and condescending, even to players such as Ashburn and Hodges.

I know it is a short career but I think Dizzy Dean has to be on there.
