  • Lots of Great Players But No Championships

A team with a collection of great players at one time that still didnt win it all. Plenty of Red Sox teams come to mind.

Or how about the 1960s Giants.... Mays, McCovey, Cepeda and Marichal

Ted Williams never appeared as a DH. He'd have a better claim to appear as a pitcher on your team.

Also, Al Rosen was a member of the 1948 Indians. He was a late season call-up, but he appeared in the 1948 World Series.

Elroy Face was a member of the 1960 Pirates.

On my team he is the DH.

I messed up on these two. I'll can replace them with Freddie Lindstrom and Dave Righetti...

Murray and Winfield are in (albeit not for what they did with Cleveland). Ramirez will get in. Vizquel and Thome have shots. Belle could have gotten in if he had more a career or if he had a better disposition.

              That's pretty solid.

                  You are right.
I forgot about how different the 95 team was from the 97 team.

The 97 Indians were by far the worst Indians team of the 1995-99 era.

Robbie Alomar, Manny Ramirez, Jim Thome and many would argue Albert Belle. I won't be surprised if Omar Vizquel manages to sneak in. Sure there is.

And with the Giants, it's widely argued that Orlando Cepeda shouldn't be in. The Hall of Fame isn't necessarily the best reference here.

That said, when I think of best collections of talent to not win, I do think of the 60s Giants. But you shouldn't be dismissive of the late '90s Indians. They're a very, very reasonable answer.
Hey, this is my public apology for suddenly disappearing and missing out on any projects I may have neglected.

How about the Mariners in the late 90s.

                        Randy Johnson
                        Griffey
                        ARod
                        Edgar Martinez

With the Mariners it extends in to the early decade. The team got better and the cast changed, with more very good players and fewer great players, but still, to those four names you can also add Ichiro Suzuki and John Olerud.

It's not necessarily due to the stars, but the 2000-02 Mariners are one of the best teams ever assembled to not even win a pennant.

How about the 2001 Mariners that went 116-46.
