  • MVP Redux

We are going to do it this time. I mean it. Let's stop letting this thing die. Every time we try to create our own historical MVPs, we always run out of steam, and give up after a few years. I'll keep two threads running. This will be for the voting, the other will be for discussion, though the first post will simply be there to list the MVP choices of BBF. Let's go all out. 1871-present. And instead of starting a new thread every freaking time the MVP votes have been tabulated, we'll just keep the voting rolling through the same thread. You'll have a week to get in your votes.

Voting will be done BBWAA style, which means you list a top ten. 14 for first place, 9 for second, 8 for third, and so on down the line. We will start in 2007 and work our way back to 1871.
Let's do this for real. We are not giving up on creating BBF Historical MVPs. We will make this massive project work. No more giving up after a few years. We can figure out our own MVPs for every league, every season. Say it with me: "YES WE CAN!"

Honest suggestion: is it possible to work backwards?

Basically and honestly, people are more interested in the recent past. Fans who care more about history are still interested in what happened last year, but the reverse is not necessarily true. I.E. there are more fans interested in the 2000s to any degree than their are fans interested in the 1870s.

If this thing tends to run out of steam, could part of it be because of starting with years where people don't tend to care as much? It makes sense to start at the beginning, and I'm going to be with it any way, but I personally think it might have better momentum if we started in 2007 (or 2006, or whatever) and worked backwards.

    Just a thought.
Hey, this is my public apology for suddenly disappearing and missing out on any projects I may have neglected.

Actually, that's a good idea. We will do that. Cast your votes for 2007 folks, and we will work backwards from there. But we will not lose steam. We are going all the way. "YES WE CAN!"

Is no one actually interested in this? I think it's such a good project.

I'm interested, if we can actually get people to be dedicated to it.

My problem is going to be to rank a top 10. That takes a lot of time.

If we could rank our top 3 I could handle it.
