ok smart guys, who are the players who had the best debuts

Will Clark hit a homerun off Nolan Ryan in his first AB, but went 1-4

Marcus Thames did the same vs. Randy Johnson

I am looking for better than this

and whats the guys name who threw a no-hitter in his first start...yeah, he doesn't count

In Jesse Litsch's debut last year for the Jays, he threw 8 2/3 innings and allowed 1 run on four hits and walked three. It was the longest pitching debut in Blue Jays history.

        Billy Rohr, Bos, 4/14/67:

No-hitter with two outs in the 9th inning. Elston Howard singles. The next batter makes the third out. Line: 9 1 0 0 1 5. I was at his next game when Elston Howard broke up his shutout.

            Fred Clarke went 5-for-5
Russ Van Atta shut out the Senators and got four hits
Addie Joss one-hit St. Louis and doubled in two runs
Danny Murphy went 6-for-6 with a grand slam off Cy Young
Willie McCovey went 4-for-4 with two triples
Jason Jennings had a shutout and hit a HR
John Montefusco had a nine-inning relief stint and hit a HR
Mike Ryba two-hit the Reds and had three RBI
Dizzy Dean had a three-hitter, supposedly bunted into LF, and stole home

Not sure why we can't use the no-hitters

I didn't say you couldn't use it....I wanted the name of the dude, but I was certain someone would have sarcastically said "so and so had a no-hitter,I'd say thats pretty good"

Marichal only no-hit at least 8 IP

Alvis Woods of the Toronto Blue Jays had a pinch hit home run in both his debut and his club's debut. April 7, 1977 Blue Jays vs. Chicago White Sox.

18-year old John Francis Paciorek went three for three with three RBIs, and four runs scored for the Houston Colt .45's in his only major league game back in 1963. Not bad for a guy who wasn't much of a minor league hitter.

19-year old Dave McNally threw a two-hit shutout in his major league debut on September 26, 1962.

McNally threw 9, gave up 2-hits, 3-bb and fanned 4. A sign of things to come for a terrific pitcher.
