Your correct Bill, being a Yankee fan is a double edge sword. Some good lots of winning , lots of history, but when ever it's a Yankee team or player thats the subject it's always a worse offense.

That was a real pain when I was a young boy but now it's not a big deal. Lets be realistic some will always make bigger deal out of anthing negative dealing with the Yanks.

I can recall when Joe Dimaggio's streak was being challenged, one poster wanted it broken so it wouldn't be a Yankee's record and another wanted it broken because Joe D had the record.

I should add that the fellow who wrote that article said the modern Yankees are far from modest. What does he base that one, I don't recall the Yankee's shooting off their mouths in the late 1990s when they were winning. Let him back up his words, from what I saw they credited the teams they defeated in those year. Was there maybe one braggart in those winning seasons possible but as a team I didn't see it.

Then he speaks of the Yanks in 1938 singing and celebrating............what about it, any other teams do the same.

As for Joe McCarthy remember some baseball history as a Cub manager he took them to a World Series that they lost and they dumped him soon after, Joe did not care for the Cubs.

Can we be honest here, don't confuse some obnoxious Yankee fans with the team. I might also add that not all Yankee fans are obnoxious. Add to that all though I do not excuse "some" loud mouth Yankee fans if it were(only examples) Chicago, Boston, Dodgers who had won so often they would have their share of obnoxious fans. It's called human nature, not an excuse just a fact.

They were probably only the 4th best Yankees team even only up to that point

Couldn't agree more. I get yelled at by every person I tell this to, but its tough to be a real Yankee fan because you seem to be automatically labeled as an obnoxious bandwagoner by fans of 29other teams even when you provide enough evidence of not being one ( I always tell people how I went to my first yankee game in 1991 when I was 3 and they stunk). Every team that wins attracts the unknowledgable bandwagoners that brag and are loud enough to appear as if they are the typical fan of that team. Well, that's my pointless rant for now. :o

Been a Yankee fan all my life.......and thats a long time. Not obnoxious, not a braggart just proud of all my teams championships just like any other fan would be. I even sent congrats to Bosox fans in that painful 2004 season because just because I'm a Yankee diehard I still do appreciate great baseball and the 04 Bosox were an awesome team.

I love every minute of being a Yankee fan. So it's been a while I still saw them win many many pennants and World Series. Yes I've been around that long.

It doesn't matter how much they win, soon as they don't you hear that cry "hey what happened to the Yanks." Here is an example my dad told me about. Went to work one day many years ago and guess what he heard.........."hey what happened to your Yankees". That was in 1954 one year after they won 5 consecutive World Series and when they didn't win the 1954 pennant the anti-Yanks were again asking that question.

I was born in 1965. When I was 30 in 1995, the Yankees had won only two WS in my lifetime. Two championships in 30 years! Any fan from that period can hardly be labeled a bandwagoner. There were also periods in the early 70s and mid to late 80s when the Mets were the hot ticket in town. Bandwagon fans IMO used to be more of a football thing. Cowboy and Steeler fans were everywhere. Later on the 49ers had fans everywhere. I dont remember there being a lot of Oakland As and Cincinnati Reds fans in the 1970s. They were respected, and well known. But thats not the same thing.

I wrote the article and I used the term "Yankees" to include the entire organization, not just the players. The article mentions the constant reminders that the Yankees have won 26 World Championships. It is a great achievement, but even I, a crazy Yankees fan, have heard it enough. We know they have won. I never said the players shoot their mouths off. The fact that Joe McCarthy declared the 1938 team the greatest of all time is fine, but it certainly is not a modest statement, considering the 1927 Yankees. Joe discovered, one year later, that his 1938 team was not as good as his 1939 team, even without Lou Gehrig.

You don't think another organization might do the same? I am all over the internet all kinds of boards and you know what one topic that came up more than a few times, fans of other teams getting tired of "some" Bosox fans harping on the two championships their team won in the last 5 seasons and not stopping there but raving about how the Celtics were the best and "predicting" how their Patriots were going to send the loser N.Y Giants back to NY. All the winners are from their part of the country. And that was after two Bosox WS wins. Thank God the Giants won.

It's called human nature and all cities have "some" fans who harp about their teams. it's not an excuse it's the way it is, same with those winning Dallas Cowboy teams from years ago and the 4 time Super Bowl winning Steelers. It didn't bother me, let them talk.

You may have noticed I use the word "some" when referring to other fans unlike many who don't like the Yanks or their fans and put all Yankee fans under the same heading, braggarts or obnoxious.
