  • Your Dream Team Batting Order

If you could start eight men in the field, plus a DH, and fill out the lineup card, what would it look like? Mike would go like this:

    1. Ty Cobb - CF
    2. Rogers Hornsby - 2B
    3. Ted Williams - LF
    4. Babe Ruth - RF
    5. Lou Gehrig - 1B
    6. Jimmie Foxx - DH
    7. Mike Piazza - C
    8. Mike Schmidt - 3B
    9. Honus Wagner - SS

You'd get platooned to death in the late innings with 3 lefties in a row and then 4 righties in a row....but with these guys...like it would matter much.

Just a question on the line up, you do realize you should bat your best hitter fourth right? The three hitter gets more PAs, but the fourth hitter's PA's with runners on gives it the advantage for the best hitter. Also why A-Rod over Wagner? I love Alex to death, but I gots to give the Dutchman his due. Well here's my list

        LF: Barry Bonds
        2B: Rogers Hornbsy
        DH: Ted Williams
        RF: Babe Ruth
        CF: Mickey Mantle
        1B: Lou Gehrig
        3B: Mike Schmidt
        SS: Honus Wagner
        CA: Yogi Berra

I wanted Mays and Cobb in there, but they had the misfortune of playing the same position, so i gave Cobb the DH since i think Mays would do better in the field. I wanted more modern players in there, the only realistic one i could see was putting A-Rod in 3B, but i guessed that the rest of the team has enough offense (My outfield alone has 1,895 home runs and over 16,700 total bases between them!) that i could go for a more defensive choice there.

Don't ya think Cobb could do better in the field than Ted?

If it is a non- DH game, I would have Aaron at RF, and Ruth pitching

                8.J.Bench-c
                9.B.Mazeroski-2B

*I wanted R.Henderson in there at the top of my line-up,he is after all the greatest lead-off hitter of all time...And I also wanted O.Smith and B.Mazeroski,in there for there Glove-work,what a great Double-play combo that would be--Hey you need some kind of defence....and No-they are not either one in the same League as R.Hornsby or H.Wagner-just wanted the Defence...Other good Choices for the DH spot would be-J.Foxx,R.Kiner,H.Aaron,T.Cobb.. Wanted R.Henderson for his speed, and ability to draw a Walk and his HR power, in the lead-off spot..B.Robinson also would have made a good choice for 3B,M.Schmidt Had more power and speed, and was just a hair below him in defence.....

He was worried about staggering lefties and righties.

You could play A-Rod at 3rd (it's legit) and start Honus at short.

                      1. Honus Wagner (1908) SS - R
                      2. Barry Bonds (2004) DH - L
                      3. Rogers Hornsby (1924) 2B - R
                      4. Babe Ruth (1920) RF - L
                      5. Mickey Mantle (1956) CF - S
                      6. Ted Williams (1941) LF - L
                      7. Mike Schmidt (1981) 3B - R
                      8. Lou Gehrig (1927) 1B - L
                      9. Johnny Bench (1972) CA - R

If you're taking people for how they actually performed, this is how I'd do it. Otherwise, I might take a different year for Bonds, or stick Cobb in the OF, moving Ted to DH. Also it would look a little different if we're supposed to look at careers. I assume filling out a roster means you look at how their doing for one year (although it could be argued that if you're filling out a roster for them now, you hope to be filling out a roster with them in the future as well... hrmmm...)

                          8. Maz
                          9. pitcher

and all of my pitchers would be ground ball types

think I would have a chance against your teams....probably not...haha
