That's assuming he plays 10 more years. I seriously doubt Dunn will last past age 35-36. At least not as a starter. I can see A-Rod playing regularly as a 40 year old.

It just ironic that A-Rod will probably get the strikeout record. He does strikeout a fair amount but he is not a strikeout machine like Thome, Dunn, Howard, etc. A-Rod's career high is 139 Ks. He had 120 K in '07.

Strikeouts are no worse a type of out than any other type of out. What you lose in sacrifice flyouts and groundouts is balanced by not hitting into double plays.

What matters is how many outs you are making, not the shape of those outs. All else being equal, a player with a lower OBP is a less valuable player even if he strikes out less.

I don't think they will play long enough or in as many games to catch A-Rod. A-Rod debuted at age 18, is incredibly durable, plays in 150 games per season like clockwork, and averages around 120-130 K pers season as well. Look at Jim Thome. He's a strikeout machine, is almost 38 and, still isn't that close to Reggie's mark.

It got me thinking by the time he retires A-rod could hold several major career records in HRs, Runs, RBI and Total Bases with perhaps 3,600,3,700 career hits. Plus he also has a good shot at the career strikeout record if you can believe that. He's #39 all-time right now. With 91 Ks in '08 he moves all the way up to #21. By the end of the '09 season he'll break into the top 10.
