Originally posted by Honus Wagner RulesIt just ironic that A-Rod will probably get the strikeout record. He does strikeout a fair amount but he is not a strikeout machine like Thome, Dunn, Howard, etc. A-Rod's career high is 139 Ks. He had 120 K in '07.
give him 10 more years of 150 K and he's got the record

Originally posted by MinstrelStrikeouts are no worse a type of out than any other type of out. What you lose in sacrifice flyouts and groundouts is balanced by not hitting into double plays.
What matters is how many outs you are making, not the shape of those outs. All else being equal, a player with a lower OBP is a less valuable player even if he strikes out less.

By the end of the '09 season he'll break into the top 10.

ARod's a great player and all...but those frosted tips have to GO!
There's no frosted tips in baseball!!! As Ty Cobb said, baseball ain't no pink tea, and mollycoddles had better stay out -- or at least stop getting foo-foo hairdos!

How is a comparison thread supposed to be anything like an individual player thread? I'm lost on the intent of what goes on here in the History section. Perhaps it could be explained.
