  • Make your complete player

If you had a chance to create your own five tool player, which tools would you take from a current or ex baseball player. For example.

    Batting Average
    Power
    Fielding
    Arm
    Speed

Please also tell me what position your player would be.

Hopefully I get a lot of replies to this thread, I think it could be really interesting.

    I would have Ty Cobb's BA- .3664
I would have Barry Bond's power.
I would have Pete Rose's fielding.
I would have Nolan Ryan's arm.
And I would have Rickey Henderson's speed

Martin Dihigo and Honus Wagner are gonna whoop you under the bleachers
Mythical SF Chronicle scouting report: "That Jeff runs like a deer. Unfortunately, he also hits AND throws like one." I am Venus DeMilo - NO ARM! I can play like a big leaguer, I can field like Luzinski, run like Lombardi. The secret to managing is keeping the ones who hate you away from the undecided ones. I am a triumph of quantity over quality. I'm almost useful, every village needs an idiot.

Put Tulowitski's arm on Ozzie Smith and you have a guy who would probably save 40-50 runs a season versus an average SS.

Give Deion Sanders Henderson's base-stealing skill and get him on base at William's rate and he probably steals 145 while getting caught fewer than 20 times a year-and wins the triple crown.

Then up Williams power to Ruth's level.

                  Batting Average - Cobb
                  Power - Ruth
                  Fielding - Wagner
                  Arm - Wagner
                  Speed - early Mantle
attitude - Cobb's competitiveness, with Wagner easy-going relaxation
                  base-running chutzpah - Cobb
physique - combo of Mantle, Mays, Dick Allen.

In oder to create the perfect ballplayer, you start with Mickey Mantle, and you give him Hank Aaron's health and longevity.

And that's all you need to do.

                          Contact Hitting: Ted Williams
                          Power: Babe Ruth
                          Fielding: Willie Mays
                          Arm: Willie Mays
                          Speed: Rickey Henderson

                          Position: Center Fielder

I used contact hitting to approximate batting eye and ability to put the bat on the ball, square the ball on the bat and hit ine drives.

I used speed to also count in base-running smarts and instincts.

Can nice guys win? Sure, nice guys can win - if they're nice guys with a lot of talent. Nice guys with a little talent finish fourth and nice guys with no talent finish last." --Sandy Koufax

Except he's still not a perfect fielder. Give him Wagner's defensive skill and versatility and then you've got a perfect player.
