hopefully this makes sense
prior to '69 when there were no divisions what were the rivalries in baseball? I know about Red Sox/Yankees and Giants/Dodgers...but other than that? The reason I am interested is because looking at the history of my team and then where they play today it seems that either they had no rival or baseball didn't care about their rival.
for the longest time the Tigers had pennant races with the Yankees and Red Sox. then when divisions were created they were in the east with the Yankees and Red Sox. While I was growing up the Blue Jays were the team to beat. Then when the divisions were changed they stuck Detroit in the Central along with Cleveland who was in the East with us and Chicago and Kansas City and Minnesota.
While part of me is glad that the Tigers are not stuck in the East with the Yankees and Red Sox, another part of me sees the history and feel like the team has been shafted a little bit.
