Mike Schmidt 1981 - it was clearly better than 1980.

And if you are going to include Brett's 1980 season where he only played in 117 games (out of 162), then you can include Schmidt's '81 season where he played in 102 (out of 107 games).

One missed 5 games (Schmidt), the other missed 45 games (Brett)...

For what it's worth, I'd take Mike Schmidt's 1980 season over any of the others as well. His defense + his offense wins out in the end.

    1.) Schmidt - 1981
    2.) Schmidt - 1980
    3.) A-Rod - 2007

I seriously considered Brett's 1980 year when he hit .390. But in the end I had to go with ARod.

Welcome back ARod. Hope you are a Yankee forever.

i chose Schmidt's full season because he was more valuable over a whole year than 2/3

hey, he played in 95% of his teams games that year. It wasn't his fault they didn't play in more. And again, you still put up Brett's '80 season which he only played in 72% of his teams games... Heck, even their catcher (Darrell Porter) played in more games that season.

--I'd go with Schmidt's 81 campaign also. Since that wasn't a choice I went for his 1980 season (which is right up there too) instead.

Without looking yet, Levi Meyerle would probably be my pick.

i must've mistook the two (MS 81 and Brett 80)

                  either way playing at a 180 OPS+ in 150 games > playing at a 199 OPS+ in only 102 games

Why did Brett play so few games in 1980? Was it because of injuries? Seems strange at someone having such a brilliant season should choose to not play in so many games.

I think that was the hemorrhoid year...
But, he put those problems behind him.

--Brett time as an old school roider came in the post season. He had other injuries (the worst was a hamstriing if memory serves - which it may not nearly 30 years later) that caused him to miss significant time during the season.

I have to go with my Home Boy. His 1980 is just the tops. John McGraw's 1899 was awfully good, too.
