  • Any idea?

In old baseball footage you'll see a hitter hit a home run and circle the bases, receiving handshakes from 1st and 3rd base coaches along the way.

For younger fans who haven't seen this footage, I mean literal handshakes. Not chest-thumps, fist bumps, or high fives. Handshakes.

From what I can tell, this didn't start to change until the 1980's. I understand that this is a rather obscure subject, but does anyone know when the handshake fell out of favor on a general basis?

I have no particular idea as to the answer to your question, but it made me think of this.

I think that stuff came in during the early 80s, starting with the high-five.

And, of course, this being the Internet, it's an easy matter to find a website devoted to -- you guessed it -- the history of the high five:

DNS load balancing is a technique for administrating the traffic of a hostname. It is responsible for the redirection of requests of DNS records.
"Hey Mr. McGraw! Can I pitch to-day?"

I have the Baker/Burke original gesture as being on Oct. 2, 1977.
Mythical SF Chronicle scouting report: "That Jeff runs like a deer. Unfortunately, he also hits AND throws like one." I am Venus DeMilo - NO ARM! I can play like a big leaguer, I can field like Luzinski, run like Lombardi. The secret to managing is keeping the ones who hate you away from the undecided ones. A gesture may have occurred between Baker and Burke in 1977 - not arguing that. Do you than honestly believe that on that date it became the acceptable method of celebrating and was then a prevalent part of the game? Or do these these happen over time and become perhaps common place at a later time?

Do you honestly believe I said that? I said that's the alleged date the first high five (at least in MLB) took place.

Because I didn't know if that was the exact date of the first MLB high five, but that's what I've read
