if you want to give Jason some credit for playing 68 games of defense (vs 70 DHing) feel free.

I pick Travis Hafner SLIGHTLY over david ortiz

Considering being a DH is all about the offense you bring to the table, there have been few historically good DH seasons.
Martinez has it for more in this vote.

Ortiz had 54 homers, the Red Sox single season record. thats somewhat historic for a team that had Jimmie Foxx, Ted Williams, Babe Ruth, Manny Ramirez and Yaz on it's lineup roster at some point.

oh, and the DH wasn't around until 1976 ofcourse. other positions have a 105 year advantage.

                    It's 1973 actually.

Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.-Crash Davis

                      my bad.

either way 102 years is alot of an advantage. imagine if Ruth could DH in the 30's and the Yankees had gotten Hank Greenberg like expected.

one could argue playing outfield made Ruth in better overall shape though.

is the * just for people who we have proof for? I would look at Edgar too. Its not that he was a bad hitter...but his power seemed to come from nowhere

and I still voted for Edgar

I'd have a hard time not voting for Edgar on this one.
