  • Most Boring Team To Win The World Series

Who do you consider the most boring/uninteresting team to win the World Series?

I say the 1982 Cardinals- they were a one-dimensional team with less hitting power than one of my old little league teams.

    45 Tigers were a bore.

Many people would probably find a good pitching/weak hitting team to be boring. Of course many of the weaker hitting teams to win a WS had some baserunning speed, so that may tend to negate the boring factor somewhat.

I'm not sure if boring is the right term.
          Misplaced, maybe
Mythical SF Chronicle scouting report: "That Jeff runs like a deer. Unfortunately, he also hits AND throws like one." I am Venus DeMilo - NO ARM! I can play like a big leaguer, I can field like Luzinski, run like Lombardi. The secret to managing is keeping the ones who hate you away from the undecided ones. I am a triumph of quantity over quality. I'm almost useful, every village needs an idiot.

The '80 Phillies come to mind. Their two biggest stars were touchy, paranoid jerks. Their most colorful guy was using warmed over material from his Mets days. Maybe you could give them some points for Rose, but they were not a lot of fun for anybody outside Philly.

How is having excellent pitching (bullpen esp.), outstanding defense, and incredible speed, and very good OB% to boot, "one-dimentional"? It seems to me that you are equating lack of power with boring. The team also had its share of personalities - The White Rat, Ozzie Smith, Bruce Sutter, Keith Hernandez, Juaquine Andujar, "E.T." McGee, etc.

Yes, the Gibson shot was exciting, but the team wasn't exciting. How Oakland lost to them is beyond me.

                    Most "boring" teams:

                    1998 Yankees
                    1927 Yankees
                    1976 Reds
                    1939 Yankees
                    etc...

Watching a great team maul an over matched team is really boring.

Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.-Crash Davis

That must be news to the Red Sox. The most boring team was the 2006 Cardinals.

Someone said the 1980 Phils. How can a team that was at odds with the media, their manager and their own fans, that fought amongst themselves, had a loud blowhard of a manager who had a fistfight with one of his pitchers in the dugout, and have touchy paranoid jerks as stars be boring???? I don't consider that boring, that's compelling.

the 9 old men! Didn't one sportswriter say he didn't think anybody could win that Series?
The 1918 Red Sox come to mind. They won the Series scoring 9 runs in 6 games. The Cubs scored 10.
