Depends to me on why type of hitter he is. If he is great average/power or just great power alone, then #3. If he is speedy and good avg, lead-off. I can make up a player without stats and decide where to put him.

    ETC.

Either third or cleanup is fine with me.

The theory behind using your best hitter leadoff is he will get more at bats throughout the game, thus, more chances to do damage.

When I think of "best hitter", I think of Albert Pujols, Hanley Ramirez, etc. Guys who get good contact and good power. I would want that guy hitting 3rd in my lineup, so he's got the power if there's guys on, or the contact if there's 2 outs.

It depends on the rest of the lineup, but baseball history shows that your best slugger will usually bat 4th to give him the best chance at driving in runs. Although if the rest of your lineup stinks at getting on base batting 3rd might be better.

I just got done reading a baseball book, and the auther suggested that a manger should use his best batter in the leadoff spot. I was always told that you should use your best guy at getting on base, and use the best hitter in the third or cleanup spot in the lineup. So I was wondering what you guys thought, use your best hitter leadoff, third, or cleanup?
