I had decided last night to paint a picture of Ty Cobb, but changed my mind this afternoon when I found out Ken Griffey, Sr. would be signing autographs at the Reds Hall of Fame soon.
Griffey was a major part of the Big Red Machine of the 1970s as the starting rightfielder, a three-time All-Star, and he even finished eighth in MVP voting in 1976 (when the Reds won their second straight Series). He was a lifetime .296 hitter for the Reds, Yankees, Braves, and Mariners. And, of course, he is the father of the greatest baseball player of my lifetime, Ken Griffey, Jr. (who I’m sure will be a future subject of my painting, since he is my favorite current player).
