I found out that Babe Ruth came to my hometown in 1921. This was on one of the Yankees barnstorming tours,in direct defiance of Judge Landis' order against world series players participating in post season games.
From the Warren Evening Times,Oct 19,1921: "BABE RUTH AND BOB MEUSEL ARRIVE IN WARREN EARLY IN AFTERNOON;TO RETURN TO JAMESTOWN AFTER GAME." The exhibition game was to be played at 1 pm at the high school field vs. the Warren Independents, who i presume were a local all star team.
The paper goes on to say that "During the early afternoon,a number of local fans gathered around the Carver House waiting with expectant interest for the appearance of Ruth,Meusel and others. However the major leaguers did not stage any public reception."
Anyone else have the Babe come through their small town?
