Don't think this was of much interest to Babe. One thousand bucks for winning 24 games and another 1000 if he would win 30 games. Obvious he knew playing other positions would limit his pitching time. He was more interested in getting into the game more, swinging the bat.

Interesting story because it was probably one of Babe's last visits to cheer some one up. I omitted the beginning of story, Babe approached on a golf course by a man asking a favor of him. The man spoke of a friend who was blind and a big fan of the Babe, could he pay him a visit. Very ill at the time, he would pass away later in that year but of course he said he could make the visit.Attached Files

Excellent post, Shoeless. This is another example of why Ruth was by far the most interesting character that baseball has ever witnessed. My favorite is when Ruth was in Saint Louis and the fans were throwing bottles on the field when Ruth was in right field during the World Series. He responded by smashing 3 HRs in 1 World Series game, the 2nd time in 3 years that he accomplished this feat. And he did it against the same team! Also, he had the opponents' fans cheering for him in the end!Last edited by pheasant; 03-18-2012, 05:37 AM.

The writer does say that one walk was intentional, they did use the term back then. You will see that term used and noted in " some" game recaps in the newspaper archives.
More action in that game, police stage a raid in the right field bleachers...........during the game, 16 arrested for gambling.Last edited by SHOELESSJOE3; 03-19-2012, 08:11 PM.
