  • Marichal vs. Gibson

I was thinking about this after reading Allen Barra's arguments in Clearing the bases. Barra came up with Marichal, but I vote for Gibson, even though his won/lost wasn't as good

Gibson...rather handily...although I rate Marichal a lot higher than most people do.

I have great regard for Marichal, but Gibson was better. He has a much better NWL record, more win shares, a better DERA, and more RSAA.

Gibson by a mile. Marichal's only advantage is won-lost record, and that is really a phony advantage because Marichal got great run support his whole career while Gibson got horrible support.
