  • Which team won the WS in the year you were born?

Not a very original thread. On NYYfans.com they have posted it as well.
But a nice thread in my opinion though.

    I'll take the first shot.

The Cards won in 1967. The Cards have never been my favorite team. Not that I hate them, but I have never rooted for them.

At least my oldest daughter can say she was born in a year the Yankees won (1996), though she doesn't give a damn about baseball.

Oops! I forget to mention my other daughter. She was born in the first year of the Yankees' threepeat at the end of the nineties. And luckily she wants to play softball

I am very curious about your posts.

1953-the New York Yankees defeat the Brooklyn Dodgers 4 games to 2. Another "Subway Series". (Wonder if this had any influence on my being a railway enthusiast? )

Highlights include George Shuba of the Brooklyn Dodgers hitting the first pinch-hit home run for the National League in World Series history.

    For all the details, try:

"For the Washington Senators, the worst time of the year is the baseball season." Roger Kahn

"People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." Rogers Hornsby.

I won't give the year, but it shouldn't be terribly hard to guess when I tell you that the team that won the WS that year was the Philadelphia Phillies.

            1960

Sorry Yankee Fans, the team that won the series when I was born was the Pirates and Bill Mazeroski (in)famous home run and Tony Kubek taking the ball off the throat.

            Other events:

            Rome Olympics

Kennedy defeats Nixon (thanks to the dead in Chicago)

50th start put on the flag on July 4th
(I was one of the few that was born under the 49 star flag, most were born under the 48 or 50 star flag, and the few born before 1912 had 46 or even less stars).

Edmund G. "Pat" Brown Sr. is governor of California. he is the father of current Oakland mayor and former Gov. Edmund G "Jerry" Brown, Jr.

The Washington Senators (first in war, first in peace, last in the American League) move to Minneapolis-St Paul and become the Minnesota Twins.

The American League decides to expand two more team, Washington gets a new club and the AL moves west and the Los Angeles Angels are born and take the field for the 1961 season.

So you had a couple of good years in 1977 and 1978? Bad one in 1981.

Dodgers came back from an 0-2 deficit to beat the Yanks 4-2 after a strike-shortened season.

1965- Los Angeles defeated Minnesota in 7 games.Sandy Koufax shut down the Twins in Game 7 at old Metropolitan Stadium.

Game 7 was the only time in that Series that the road team won.

Koufax did not start Game 1 in observance of Yom Kippur.

Walter Alston became the 1st NL manager to win 4 WS titles(1955,1959,1963,and 1965)
