  • weakest armed outfielder of all time

this is a kinda odd thread but this is a boring time for baseball fans so I'm going for it.

which outfielder with a considerable amount of plate appearances in outfield (lets say 2000 or so) had the weakest arm ever?

Don Baylor played 6922 innings in the outfield with 27 assists and no double plays.

adam dunn and manny ramirez also must be in the mix. of course I don't know if he racked up 2000 PAs as an outfielder but I do think he played considerable time in LF in his first years in washington.

Juan Pierre has 43 assists in 14,000 innings.

Hal McRae is also bad, but not as bad as Baylor.

I don't know if it's the weakest ever, but Johnny Damon's arm is pretty terrible.

This was the first name that came to my mind just due to what I have seen on the field.

Assist totals are not misleading in Juan Pierre's case, that's for sure.

assists don't show the total picture because bad throwers get run on more than good throwers. but they are defintely a hint into the right direction.

just as errors do not judge a defender completely or wins a pitcher they are not a real good metric but they do show some tendencies.

Ralph Kiner supposedly had a weak arm.

Roy White had a weak arm but made up for it by being a great ball tracker and a very sound overall fielder.

Lately, you have to consider Damon or Pierre...

Bill James sites Don Baylor... something about never doubling off anyone or perhaps any sort of double play.

Garvey, Lopes, Russell, and Cey started 833 times and the Dodgers went 498-335, for a .598 winning percentage. That’s equal to a team going 97-65 over a season. On those occasions when at least one of them missed his start, the Dodgers were 306-267-1, which is a .534 clip. That works out to a team going 87-75. So having all four of them added 10 wins to the Dodgers per year.

Colby Rasmus has a rag-arm too.

Oh yes it is. I remember him patrolling center at Fenway, putting forth his whole body just to throw what looked like 75 MPH.

He topped out at 66 (according to my sundial).
