Why did it take so long for the Redsox to retire Ted Williams number? Also I noticed Joe Cronin had his number retired first. I assume that was due to scheduling because both numbers were retired in 1984.

"(Shoeless Joe Jackson's fall from grace is one of the real tragedies of baseball. I always thought he was more sinned against than sinning." -- Connie Mack
"I have the ultimate respect for Whitesox fans. They were as miserable as the Cubs and Redsox fans ever were but always had the good decency to keep it to themselves. Now i'm curious why Wade Boggs number isn't retired. Whats even more strange is that Scott Podsednik wears #26 now. Is there a grudge between the Redsox and Boggs?"(Shoeless Joe Jackson's fall from grace is one of the real tragedies of baseball.
