I have Alvarez on a fantasy team so I have been paying attention to his stats this season. He has an extremely low strikeout rate. 41.2 innings and 12 Ks if I recall correctly. On Friday he pitched a shutout in Anaheim. He threw only 97 pitches. Getting 27 outs vs an AL lineup on such few pitches is pretty impressive.
In Bob Tewksbury's best season of 1992 he had a low K rate but I think it was still better than Alvarez this season. John Denny won an ERA crown with a very low K rate.
