I'm very young, so I hardly have anything to share. The only one I could offer would be the 2004 Idiots (I know, we really went back in time for a minute). They were such a great group of misfits that came together to reverse the curse in a fashion equaling a storybook. It was when the Red Sox were fun. They've always had a large payroll, so I don't mind their acquisitions over the years, especially Curt Schilling for the 2004 roster. That was simply expansion.
Around 2006 was the time they began brute buying. From yearly acquisitions (especially to fill the black hole that is shortstop) to recruiting all the young talent to the ludicrous contracts of Crawford, Lackey, and Daisuke, the team has become a revolving door for overpaid burnouts and/or obnoxious characters."Allen Sutton Sothoron pitched his initials off today."--1920s articleComment

Guys stealing 70-100 bases a year, every year!
Starters pitching a bunch of complete games, and still ending up with ERAs below 3.00.
Twenty home runs in a season makes a guy a power hitter in the cleanup spot.
If a guy works out in a gym with weights, it is news enough to be mentioned when he comes up to bat.
Fireman coming on to get 6-9 outs, even when down a run or the game is tied.

This made me lol. Sadly the maids are probably here to stay. Andrew Miller just got 4 years $32 (38?) mil. to set up. Darren O'Day got a similar deal. A lot of clubs are dead set that they need relievers to pitch the 7th, 8th and 9th individually, especially in the postseason. Those are the relievers who are going to get the big deals. Teams still need a lefty specialist and a couple mop up guys at minimum. No one carries just 6 relievers anymore though. One of my great joys in baseball is when a starter is going well, and then the manager brings in a 7th/8th/9th combo and one of them blows it (except when a ChiSox). People still think that because it is true. Its just today people realize that a pitcher with 20 wins isn't necessarily better than a guy who won 16 and there are better ways to judge pitcher effectiveness.Originally posted by JR Hart View Post
