  • Major Leaguers who participated in the Olympic Games

Other than Jim Thorpe, are they are any major leaguers who participated in the Olympics in a sport other than baseball?
Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.-Crash Davis

Does anyone know if Bob Gibson tried out or was seriously considered for the 1956 Olympic basketball team? I have no idea how the team was selected back then.

Herb Washington was a world class sprinter, but I don't know if he actually made the Olympic team or not.

Hideo Iijima played in the Japanese major leagues and was an Olympic sprinter.

Herb Washington never made an Olympic track team.

Looks like Iijima was the original "Herb Washington". He played three seasons in the NPB and never came to bat.

here is Iijimi on the far left at the 1968 Olympics.
