    1. The more I learn, the more convinced I am that many players are over-rated due to inflated stats from offensive home parks (and eras)

Is there any real competition to McCovey?

Giambi and McGwire are a couple of steroid guys with short gaudy careers.
Cepeda was as good as McCovey for a few years, but played almost full-time OF once McCovey made the Giants.

Clark was a good player in a short career. Snow was a lower-level Keith Hernandez.

Keep in mind that a lot of McCovey's best years were played in Candlestick Park in the 1960's. There have been worse times and places to be a hitter, but of the list only Cepeda actually had to deal with it.

        Will Clark did as well.
Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.-Crash Davis

Clark and Snow had to deal with Candlestick in the 80's and 90's - not the era when a strike was defined as "from the bottom of the knees to the top of the shoulders". That must have been fun, hitting the high fastball from Koufax, Drysdale, Gibson, Maloney etc. on a day when it's 52°F out and windy. Which seems to be about half the games at Candlestick.
