How do you define "all time hitter"?

Talk to me when he has multiple 200+ OPS+ seasons.

Granted, not a perfect "metric" but here are the top 10 "most similar" hitters.

          Frank Robinson (924)
          Hank Aaron (910)
          Ken Griffey (890)
          Albert Pujols (881)
          Mel Ott (862)
          Joe Medwick (858)
          Al Kaline (858)
          Mickey Mantle (856)
          Juan Gonzalez (849)
          Hal Trosky (847)

That'a quite a list, 5 HoFers and 2 future HoFers.

Is that current definition of "all time" hitter now?

It's always been mine. I also define monster season as a 200+ OPS+ season. Anything less isn't monster.

So that means that there are only eight "all time hitters". Bonds, Ruth, Hornsby, Williams, Gehrig, Mantle, Cobb and Foxx. No Mays, Musial, Wagner, Shoeless Joe, Pujols, Aaron...

I'd add anyone over 170 for 10 years for sure. Musial was 170 over 14 seasons and 15 years.

What's an All Time hitter again? Is like a Pantheon of hitting? If that's the case, he's not in it. But by his bat alone he'll go the HOF.

Of course not. That is why clean 200 OPS+ seasons are almost non-existent since the early 60's. Who has had a clean 200+ season since Mantle? Bonds in 1992 and 1993? Anybody else? Brett and Thomas and Bagwell in shortened seasons.

                              That wasn't the original question.
