  • Elmer Valo vs. Stan Javier

We're playing the "who is better than his most similar comp" game.

My starting point was Tommy Dowd, the guy with the lowest WAR among all batters with at least 5,000 plate appearances. I hope to work my way up to *somebody* vs. Babe Ruth. That'd be cool.

Which of these players would you like to build your franchise around?

    Valo:

    1806 G
    6901 PA
    5029 AB
    768 R
    1420 H
    228 2B
    73 3B
    58 HR
    601 RBI
    110 SB
    79 CS
    942 BB
    284 K
    .282 BA
    .398 OBP
    .391 SLG
    .790 OPS
    115 OPS+
    1968 TB
    111 GDP
    38 HBP
    65 SH
    >=17 SH
    >=12 IBB
    25.8 WAR

    Javier:

    1763 G
    5755 PA
    5047 AB
    781 R
    1358 H
    225 2B
    40 3B
    57 HR
    503 RBI
    246 SB
    51 CS
    578 BB
    839 K
    .269 BA
    .345 OBP
    .363 SLG
    .708 OPS
    93 OPS+
    1834 TB
    102 GDP
    25 HBP
    67 SH
    38 SF
    26 IBB
    22.9 WAR

If Valo wins, he will face his fifth-most similar comp. If Javier wins, he will face his third-most similar comp.

I would say Valo wins this easily.

And when they finally won the World Series, they celebrated without annoying every other fan in the country."--Jim Caple, ESPN (Jan. 12, 2011)

Picked Valo, although I was surprised how good a base-thief Javier was.

I picked Valo - he was a legitimate starting player for much of his career. Javier, on the other hand, was mostly a utility-quality ballplayer.

One thing which is surprising to me is how close they both are with Career WAR.

            Javier picked up 51 base-running runs and 35 fielding runs: 50- -1, 37-2
