  • Heinie Manush vs Jose Cardenal

One of Bill James odder 80's player comps in his older Historical Abstracts. This one he didn't explain or think out that clearly. Same kinda players, a bit, but just check OPS+ etc. C'mon Bill.

Cardenal clearly thrived playing in Wrigley. No match here as Manush was the much better player obviously.

I think he was just picking names out of a hat.

I have 1% of the baseball knowledge you and others have here and I could have put together a better comp off the top of my head.

Funny how he had Manush/Cardinal and Simmons/Oliver..and yet a Manush/Oliver comparison is extremely valid and interesting.

Exactly. Never saw how he missed that.

Wasn't he just doing style of player/person rather than putting up similarity scores? So you had the clean cut (or so it seemed at the time), long consecutive game streak 1B Garvey compared to Gehrig.
