  • Morganites Unite!!!!!!

If you believe that Joe Morgan is the greatest 2B of all time, please post here!! We shall unite, organize and defeat the "evil" Hornsbyians (and join forces with Collins brigade) and spread truth, light, and the American way.

I'll join with you that Hornsby is not necessarily the best second sacker of all-time, but I can't support Morgan. I tend to go between Collins and Lajoie.

I was really disappointed when I realized that I had mis-read the title of this thread. I thought it said Magranites, fans of Joe Magrane.

I'll join with Barzilla and say Hornsby isn't the greatest, but I think collins is ahead of Morgan. :/

Sorry, but there's no way a guy with a .271 career BA, who only hit .300 twice in a 22 year career, could possibly be the best ever at any position.

                  Honus Wagner Rules,

I have posted many times saying Joe Morgan is the best second baseman ever, and I have sent private messages to people (including you) saying the same thing. Morgan was better than Hornsby in all the things that don't show up in the box score (and quite a few things that are in the box score as well). Bill James, in his latest Historical Abstract, also has Morgan #1 (with Collins as #2). Not only is Joe Morgan the best announcer ever, but he is also the best second baseman.

Joe Morgan may have been able to play ball but he can't call a game for squat

I don't consider Mike Schmidt the greatest 3Bman of all time, almost entirely because of his inability to hit for contact. HR's and BB's are nice, but they're not what make a ballplayer.

And saying where James ranks Hornsby is a little pointless; Bill James has admitted that he has huge personal animosity towards Rajah, and I believe that his rankings reflect that.

I wish people would forget they ever heard the words batting average and intangibles.

And James has also stated that his personal dislike for Hornsby has NO bearing on his rankings.
